When a relationship ends, there is nothing else to do but to accept it gracefully. I know breakups are too painful that the pain even makes you doubt your own decision. No matter how much it hurts, you have to do what you have to do and be loyal to your decision. If you go through this pain when it is the right time for it, you will go through it later on, and it will make everything worse because there is no point in being with someone who is not for you to delay and avoid the pain. The pain of a breakup might seem endless for you but trust the process. Everything will get better after the suffering period, and there are some ways to end this period smoother and quicker than usual. 1. Do Not Contact Your Ex
The first and the most important rule to get over the breakup is not to contact your ex again. You will feel a great urge to call your ex and tell them you want to stay as friends but don't. You have to be loyal to yourself and your decision. Doing it will put you in more pain. Be decisive and move on. Even if your ex-partner tries to contact you or reach you, express your thoughts honestly and tell your ex not to get any hopes.
2. Get Rid of The Reminders
You probably have many things that remind you of your ex, especially if you have been in a long-term relationship. Some gifts that your ex got you might be valuable and useful, but the other stuff should go to the trash. If you keep remembering your ex and your memories, there is no way that you can get over this easily. You will see them and think of your ex and get upset during the day. Old memories will be unpleasant surprises for you. Even if you don't want to throw them away, just put them somewhere that you will not see.
3. Stay Away from The Social Media
Stalking or following your ex on social media is nothing but remembering them all the time. If you are going to stalk your ex, there is no need to throw the reminders away because you will keep thinking about your ex whenever you see a post or a photograph. Following your ex on social media might even make you more upset if your ex has already got over you and got into a new relationship. You might get angry, unhappy, or even depressed only by seeing it while you should be feeling empowered and self-conscious. Put your phone away and watch a movie instead of seeing your ex moving on. Try to choose an action movie.
4. Talk to Your Friends
You should know that you can always rely on your friends about your problems, and it would be natural to talk to your friends about your ex. You can tell them how much you are hurt or hate them now. If you cannot speak with your friends about it, you can share your feelings with your family, as well. You should know that your family and friends will comfort you. To get relieved, you should talk no matter who. You can even speak to your bedroom walls, as long as you get the bad feelings out of your system. You can also write your feelings down in a letter, but don't even think about sending it.
5. Eat As Much As You Want
When you are in pain, you will want to feel better. And, nothing can make you as happy as a chocolate cake does. Do not think you should not eat much because it is a depression sign. If you want to eat, eat as much as you want. Eat the whole ice cream in one night, and you will see how happy you will feel. Do not mind getting on weight because it will not last long anyway. I think you will be okay getting on weight instead of drinking too much alcohol and damaging your body.
6. Do Not Avoid The Pain
I know you are trying to get over the pain of the relationship and your ex. However, you have to go through some pain first to accomplish all these. Let your emotions and thoughts take control for some time (a short time) at the very beginning. You should cry, shout or get angry as much as you want. You need to get everything out of your mind and heart and face them honestly to move on. After accepting your emotions, you can live in peace.
7. Do Not Jump Into Another Relationship
Well, you will need some time to clear your mind after you break up with someone. No matter how ready you think you are for another relationship, you have to take some time. Unless you get over the breakup and pain you go through you cannot fully concentrate on your next relationship. If you want to start a new and healthy relationship, give yourself the time to pull yourself together emotionally. When you feel ready to date again, it will be the right time for you.
8. Refresh Yourself
Change is a great way to avoid depression. You can refresh yourself and get a new haircut. I am sure you will feel different and better. You can buy yourself new clothes or change your style too. You can paint your bedroom in another color, something that will make you happy. The difference will make you adapt to the changes in your life easier. You will feel fresh to start your new phase of life and enjoy it.
9. Go Out And Have Fun
Okay, you have to go through depression, pain, and sadness for some time. However, you need to make a move to end this period and start living your life again. If you do not adapt to your social life again, you will be stuck with memories of your ex. You should get dressed and do something fun with your friends. Have as much fun as you can and see how precious life is. Get out of the house as much as you can. Being in a different place will get you out of that depressed mood.
10. Make A Playlist
You need to make a breakup playlist for yourself, actually two. One is for the depressed mood that you'll be feeling right after the breakup. This list might contain a lot of Sam Smith's and Adele's songs, no shame in that. The other playlist is the after-breakup period, and it will have many Dua Lipa songs like IDGAF or New Rules. This second playlist will be empowering and more joyful, it will help you get back to your life. You should get help for the music's healing power.
